Makhtesh
A makhtesh is an erosion landform pretty much unique to the Negev, where softer rock has been worn out of an anticline to leave a steep-walled crater. Posts here cover the two principal ones encountered on a Negev geology day: Makhtesh Ramon (the largest of them) and the smaller craters in the wider Negev Mountains region around Mitzpe Ramon.
