Rabbi Josef Caro (1488-1575) was a Sephardi scholar who settled in Tzefat after the Spanish expulsion. He compiled the Shulchan Aruch, the foundational code of traditional Jewish law. Discussed here as part of a day in Safed / Tzefat.
